Can I purchase a meal plan?

Any IUPUI student can purchase a meal plan. If you are a student living in Ball Hall, North Hall and University Tower you will choose a Required Meal Plan. If you are a student not living in Ball Hall, North Hall or University Tower you will choose an Elective Meal Plan. Currently meal plans for faculty and staff are not available.

Why would I purchase a meal plan?

An IUPUI meal plan is the perfect way to ensure you have money to purchase food while at IUPUI. This prepaid meal plan account guarantees you have quality food readily available while on-campus. Meal plans provide substantial costs savings, time, convenience, and peace of mind. All these benefits allow you to focus on your educational mission at IUPUI.

Which plan is best for me?

For elective plans there is no one size fits all when it comes to Meal Plans so we offer a variety of options to best fit your needs. Recommendations based on the number of days you’ll be on campus and the approximate dollar amount you may spend on food and beverage while you are here are given for each meal plan. Choose your meal plan based on how often you’ll be eating on campus. There are 16 weeks per semester. If you are on campus only once or twice per week and only need one or two meals and a snack while on campus the Jinx Meal Plan is probably right for you. If you are eating on campus two to three times per week the Jaws Meal Plan would be a good fit for you. If you are on campus Monday thru Friday for a good part of the day the Jag Plan could be good for you. If you live in a residence hall (other than University Tower, North Hall, or Ball Hall), or you live in off-campus housing, and desire a more robust plan, the Jazzy Plan would be a good fit. You should really consider how much you will be actually eating while on campus, whether you like to cook at home, what your class schedule is like, etc., to determine the best plan for you.

For required plans there are three choices, knowing the differences between them is important.

All Access 7 Day and 5 Day Plan are the same price but have a different amount of swipes and dining dollars. All Access 7 Day gives you unlimited access to Tower Dining seven (7) days a week and $50 Dining Dollars per semester whereas the All Access 5 Day gives you unlimited access to Tower Dining five (5) days a week and $200 Dining Dollars per semester. The 5 Day Plan is only suggested for those students that either go home every weekend or have full-time weekend commitments that keep them away from campus during dining hours. The 14 Per Week Plan allows for 14 meals per week and $150 Dining Dollars per semester. This plan is only available for students that have sophomore class standing and above.

For the full description of each of our Meal Plans, please view the More Information link under each meal plan product on the website.

How do Meal Swipes work?

Meal Swipes are for use at Tower Dining and as a Swipe Swap at Tower Den. They work like a debit card using Crimson Card (formerlyJagtag). The number of meal swipes you purchased are deposited into your Meal Plan account and swipes are automatically deducted at the cash register as you enter at the Tower Dining location. One entry into Tower Dining equals one Meal Swipe. Your receipt will display your remaining balance after each meal swipe. Jinx, Jawz, Jags and Jazzy Meal Swipes are intended to be used in one semester. However, any remaining Meal Swipes at the end of the semester will rollover to the spring semester. The 14 Per Week Meal Plan Meal Swipes are to be used per week (14 total Meal Swipes per week). Any remaining Meal Swipes at the end of the week do not rollover to the next week. The *All Access Meal Swipes are unlimited per week and per semester, in other words you can use as many Meal Swipes as you’d like per week or per semester. *The All Access 5 Day plan is unlimited Monday through Friday only.

*The All Access 5 Day plan is unlimited Monday through Friday only.

How do Bonus Meal Swipes work?

Bonus Meal Swipes are given to all required meal plan holders and those elective meal plan holders that purchase a plan prior to the incentive date. They work just like a meal swipe except they are for your guests or for yourself in the case you run out of your regular meal swipes. These are deposited on your Meal Plan account and swipes are automatically deducted at the cash register. These cannot be used as a swipe swap. In the case you’d like to treat a guest to a meal at the Den by Denny’s you can use the dining dollars on your plan.

What are Swipe Swaps and how do they work?

Swipe Swaps work similarly to meal swipes in that one swipe equals one meal. A swipe swap allows a student to exchange up to two meal swipes per day for either:

  1. A To Go meal at Tower Dining
  2. A meal at Tower Den featuring the Den by Denny’s

Every meal plan holder can use two swipe swaps per day in exchange for a meal swipe at Tower Dining.

How do Dining Dollars Work?

Dining Dollars work like a debit card using Crimson Card (formerlyJagtag). Funds are deposited into your Meal Plan account and purchases are automatically deducted at the cash register at any IUPUI Dining Services location across campus. Your receipt will display your remaining balance after each purchase. Dining Dollars carry over from week to week and from fall semester to spring semester but not from spring semester to any future semester. Every purchase using Dining Dollars receives 14% off the regular price (this includes the tax-free purchase every student gets when dining at IUPUI Dining Services plus an additional 5% off).

Students who require special accommodations due to dietary restrictions should register with Adaptive Educational Services (AES) www.aes.iupui.edu by May 31 to ensure prompt assistance. AES and the IUPUI Dining Services Executive Chef will help determine if reasonable accommodations can be made. While Tower Dining can accommodate some dietary restrictions, there are limitations within a high volume dining environment. In the case of severe food allergies and other dietary restrictions, one must consider if a residential facility that has a required meal plan is the best option.
